Made by Mukden Arsenal, who made approximately 79,000 Type 38 rifles, this Type 38 is of early-war manufacture and has an adjustable rear sight, steel buttplate, and a one piece stock and short handguard. This rifle is in excellent condition. Almost all of the blueing remains. The woodwork has a number of minor dings and dents. The barrel is in excellent condition. The chrysanthemum has been defaced.

Introduced in 1905, the Type 38 utilized a modified Mauser action, differing only the arrangement of the firing pin safety. A sliding bolt cover was also used, however, this was usually removed from rifles due to the amount of noise they made during operation.
