The trained bomber's badge was awarded to those men who had completed a bomber's course and passed the final examination. Within the Australian 1st Division the course was required to be run at a battalion or higher level for a man to be considered a trained bomber, although this would vary between divisions.
Trained bombers were employed within battalions as instructors for other men in bombing. In the attack, they were generally grouped into specialised bombing sections which would be used as mopping up parties.
The badge was worn on the right arm, above any chevron, if worn.
