Converted from earlier India pattern bayonets, the Pattern 1839 bayonet had a four inch socket with a Hannoverian, or, after 1844, Lovell catch. This example uses the Lovell catch. The bayonet socket has a dark patina and is covered with fine pitting. The blade is in similar condition, and is covered with fine pitting with some areas of heavier pitting. The bayonet has no scabbard. Despite its condition, this bayonet is a good example of an extremely rare bayonet.
