These original breech covers were made by Stevens during the Second World War. Although they do not appear to have been used there is verdigris on some brass parts, which has also damaged the original leather thongs. Extreme care should be used when using the press studs.

Details

Breech covers were introduced during the First World War to keep mud and dust from the action of the rifle. The cover completely encloses the action and is held by three brass press studs. A leather thong on the cover attaches to the wire loop in front of the magazine on the rifle, holding the cover when it is not being used.
