Worn with the utility uniform by the USMC, the utility cover, is an eight-pointed hat, with a stiffened visor. Based upon the US Army field cap and a rairoad engineer's cap, it was first issued in 1943 with the herringbone twill utility uniform.
It is currently issued in desert and woodland MARPAT camouflage patterns. Older versions came in woodland, six-colour desert, and three-colour desert camouflage patterns as well as olive drab.
