The MQ M968 bayonet is a modification of the earlier Model 1908 knife bayonets used with the Mauser M1908 7mm Rifle. The blade was cut down from 298mm (11.75") to 165mm (6.50 "). The original hooked quillion guard was replaced with a straight crosspiece with a much larger muzzle ring. The metal was was bead-blasted before being parkerized. The wood grip scales are secured by screw-bolts.

This bayonet was adopted for use with the Mosquetao 7.62mm Modelo 968 (Model M968 7.62mm Carbine). The MQ M968 is a variant of the 30-06 caliber Mauser M954 rifle and was used by the Brazilian Army for basic training.

The scabbard is based upon those produced in Brazil for the FAL Type C Bayonet, however, has a rectangular throat piece, instead of the semi-circular throat piece used by the FAL Type C. The scabbard has a plastic body, with an integral nylon web belt frog with U.S. M1910 style wire belt hanger.
