Adopted around 1870 the pith helmet has become, along with the red coat, one of the most enduring symbols of the British soldier. Used until the end of the Second World War the pith helmet went through various changes throughout its long service life. We have succeeded in recreating the first adopted pith helmet, deeper than its successor the Wollesley helmet. The helmets are available in either a khaki or white material covering.

AS USED AT THE BATTLES OF ISANDHILWANA AND RORKES DRIFT IN JANUARY 1879
On the 22nd January 1879, a force of approximately 10,000 Zulus attacked and over-ran the 1st and elements of the 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot, at Isandhilwana. Around 4000 Zulu Impis then continued to Rorke's Drift and, the same afternoon, launched a ferocious attack on the small garrison there. Comprised of 80 men from the 24th Regiment of Foot commanded by an Officer of the Royal Engineers, and about 40 men in the hospital, the garrison repelled repeated attacks by the Zulus. At dawn on the 23rd, the Zulus abandoned the attack.
This helmet is a close copy of those worn by the 24th Regiment of Foot during the Zulu War and at both the battles of Isandilwana and Rorke's Drift. The white pith helmet is adorned with both the pressed brass spike and dome spike base and the brass 24th Regiment of Foot helmet plate. The high quality leather liner is held to the helmet by two brass hooks, as were the originals.
The adiustable leather liner will fit sizes 55 - 62.
