Commonwealth Pattern Service Jacket

Click for large image. The Commonwealth or Universal Pattern Service jacket was worn by Australian military forces for some forty years, and was used during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War with only minor variations. The jacket we have reproduced is the type worn by Australian soldiers during the First World War. It features four pockets, two pleated breast pockets, and two lower bellows pockets; belt with brass buckle; pleated back; collar with brass hook and loop closure; and brown plastic buttons. A great deal of research has gone into this reproduction to ensure that it is as close to original examples as possible, and the jacket will suit re-enactors, and collectors alike. The jacket is available in the chest sizes 36", 38", 40", 42", 44", 46" and 48".

Greyback Shirt

Click for large image. Issued to British soldiers since Queen Victoria's reign, the greyback shirt was issued to Australian soldiers during the First World War. Made of grey wool flannel, it features a buttoned half front and is collarless, a strip of cotton being sewn around the neck to lessen irritation. A bib of wool flannel on the front comes to a point at a strip of white cotton. This was intended for the soldier to put his number on (although this never seems to have happened).
