Trade, proficiency, and skill-at-arms badges were worn to distinguish soldiers proficient in particular arms, skills or trades. Although used by the British army for many years prior to the First World War, there was an explosion of these badges during this war. These reproductions are made of thread embroidered on a wool backing.
