Australia adopted two patterns of breeches in 1912. One had been developed for mounted troops and the other for dismounted.
The dismounted pattern breeches were made of the same heavy bedford cord fabric as the mounted pattern. These breeches had two side seam pockets, a button fly, and were laced just below the knee. Originally these breeches had a lower leg similar to the mounted pattern however, in 1913 this was altered to a short cuff which tied with a simple lace around the upper calf. This change allowed easier fitting of the breeches to men of different dimensions. Both these types , as well as a pair that had a cuff fastened by buttons were used during the First World War.
These breeches are available in sizes 32”, 34”, 36”, 38”, 40”, 42”, 44” and 46” waist.
These breeches, like originals, are designed to be worn on the natural waist. This is much higher than it is fashionable to wear trousers today. When measuring your waist please ensure that you measure your natural waist. For the majority of men this will be level with the belly button.
