Introduced in 1917 the Lewis Gun Magazine pouches were worn over other webbing. Each pouch attached by a buckle and strap to the pouches beside it and two shoulder straps were attached to the front and rear pouches. A set of four pouches carried eight magazines, two in each pouch.
