Two patterns of mess tins were issued to Australian troops during the First World War. Both patterns were constructed in tin plate, the majority being steel with a protective tin plate.
The round mess tin, shown above, was issued to mounted troops. The tins were usually worn in a cotton canvas cover which was attached to the saddle by a leather strap.
These reproductions have been made after close examination of numerous original examples. It is a very close, high quality reproduction.
