This hat is a reproduction of those worn by Australian troops during the First World War. The Akubra slouch hat is fitted with the following accoutrements: a reproduction First/Second World War Hat Badge (King's Crown), an original Second World War chin strap, and reproduction wool hat band.
The slouch hat worn during the Second World War did not vary from that worn during the First until the latter years of the war when the folded pugaree was adopted. During the Second World War however, a unit colour patch was worn on the right hand side of the hat band or puggaree. This practice was not followed during the First World War (although the 3rd Division did receive approval for this distinction, it was rescinded shortly thereafter).
