This hat is a reproduction of those worn by 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment during the First World War. The Akubra slouch hat is fitted with the following accoutrements: a reproduction First/Second World War Hat Badge (King's Crown), an original Second World War chin strap, emu plume, and kangaroo fur hat band.

During the First World War the 6th Light Horse Regiment was distinguished from other units of the Light Horse by the wallaby fur band of their hats. There appears to be no precedent for this distinction (New South Wales mounted units, from which the 6th Light Horse was drawn, had always been distinguished by cock's plumes in their hats.) and after the war the distinction was lost.
