Introduced in 1910 this field gray cap replaced the dark blue caps used by various German states prior to the First World War. It would be replaced in 1916 by the Einheits (or universal) cap which had a dark green band and piping and was used by all German officers.

This cap is made from a fine quality field gray wool and has red wool cap band and piping. The grey lining features a reproduction of an original manufacturer's marking.
