British Royal Air Force Officer's Sword Knot

These sword knots are made of braid and gold wire embroidery and are worn on air force officer's swords. The strap is passed through a hole in the guard and then wrapped around the guard.

Though now only decorative, sword knots were originally designed to prevent the sword being lost in battle. Wrapped around the hand or wrist the sword knot prevented the loss of the sword if it was accidentally dropped.
Windlass Steelcraft's relationship with the British Ministry of Defence first began in 1943 when their first facilities were opened to manufacture kukri knives for the British army. This relationship continues to this day and Windlass are now the only approved manufacturer of kukris for the British military.
