This hat is a reproduction of those worn by Australian troops during the early years of the Second World War. The Akubra slouch hat is fitted with the following accoutrements: a reproduction First/Second World War Hat Badge (King's Crown), an original Second World War chin strap, and reproduction wool hat band.

At the outbreak of the Second World War Australian soldiers of the AIF were equipped little different to those that had fought in the First World War. The hat, nor its embellishments, had changed and would not until latter in the war when the puggaree was introduced. Despite the adoption of this puggaree in around 1943 however, wool hat bands continued to be worn until the end of the war.
