Since 1898 KA-BAR, formerly known as the Union Cutlery Company, has produced exceptional knives and tools for military and sporting use.
In the 1920s KA-BAR was a brand of the Union Cutlery Company, the name being adopted after the company received a badly scrawled letter praising one of their knives. KA-BAR knives proved to be extremely popular with hunters and sportsman and on the outbreak of the Second World War the knife was submitted to the USMC. Adopted by the USMC as its standard fighting/utility knife in 1945, over one million of these knives were made.
In 1952, due to the popularity and fame of this knife the company changed its name to KA-BAR Cutlery Inc., dropping the name Union Cutlery Company completely.
The following article gives a short description of how KA-BAR knives are made.
