Introduced in 1860, the Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sabre was intended to replace the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry sabre. In fact this transition would not take place until after the Civil War. The Model 1860 was not particularly well received. Designed to correct many of the shortcomings of the Model 1840 it did not differ greatly, the blade being slightly smaller and straighter, and the grip differently shaped.
This sword has a brass hilt, with leather grip bound with twisted wire. The blade is a tempered carbine steel. It comes with the correct pattern steel scabbard with two loose rings.

These fine reproduction swords are faithful copies of those used by the United States and Confederate Army and Navy during the Civil War. Made with excellent attention to detail, the hand forged blades are a tempered high carbon steel. The handles are wire wrapped leather, and the scabbards are made of leather, steel and brass. Despite their affordable price, these swords are an excellent, high quality reproduction.
