Carcano Model 91/38 short rifle (AN7475)

Availability: In stock

This 91/38 Short rifle is an original 1940 Terni made rifle with matching serial numbers. Like many of the Italian rifles the barrel shows some ware and rust pitting due to corrosive ammunition of WWII.

This rifle is in fair to good condition and is a good representative of the more common rifle used by the Italian army during WWII.

The woodwork has been cleaned, and the rifle maintains a lot of its original blue.

The Italians adopted the carcano rifle in 1891, and it remained in service until after WWII in numerous models from the earlier longer rifles to the cavalry carbines with folding Bayonets

After unfavourable reports on the 6.5x52mm calibre during the campaigns in Italian North Africa and the Second Italo-Abyssinian War the Model 1938 rifle was adopted in 7.35x51mm. The rifle had a 535mm barrel and a fixed 300 metre rear sight. At the outbreak of the Second World War, the 7.35x51mm calibre was abandoned and 6.5x52mm adopted as standard, due to logistical issues with the supply of ammunition.
