This impressive sword was made by noted London sword-maker Edward Thurkle in 1901 for Sydney retailer W. Chorley. Based upon the Pattern 1821 Cavalry Officer's sword, all parts of this sword, apart from the blade and grip, are heavily decorated, hallmarked sterling silver.

Details

This impressive sword was made by noted London sword-maker Edward Thurkle in 1901 for Sydney retailer W. Chorley. 'Chorley & Co Tailor & Robemaker' was established in the 1880s and specialized in formal court dress and service uniforms. Before its closure in 1980, the firm had tailored for every NSW Governer since 1883.

Based upon the Pattern 1821 Cavalry Officer's sword, all parts of this sword, apart from the blade and grip, are heavily decorated, hallmarked sterling silver. Both sword and scabbard are in excellent condition.
