Although removed from its original factory wrapping this rifle has never been issued and is in outstanding condition. The metalwork is in close to mint condition, there are minor marks to the woodwork, and the barrel is unfired. All serial numbers are matching.
The No.4 Mk.2 rifle was adopted following the Second World War. A refined and improved No. 4 rifle, the No.4 Mk.2 had the trigger hung from the receiver and not from the trigger guard. Stocks were of beech, the original reinforcing strap and center piece of wood in the rear of the fore-end on the No.4 Mk I/Mk I* being removed in favour of a tie screw and nut. With the introduction of the No.4 Mk.2, the British refurbished many of their existing stocks of No. 4 rifles bringing them up to the same standard as the No. 4 Mk 2. No. 4 Mk.I rifles so upgraded were re-designated No. 4 Mk I/2, whilst No. 4 Mk I* rifles that were brought up to Mk 2 standard were re-designated No.4 Mk.I/3.
