Enfield No.1 Mk.V .303 Rifle (A3644)

Availability: In stock

$3,495.00

Quick Overview

The No.1 Mk.V rifle attempted to resolve some of the issues found with the Mk.III rifle during the First World War. Between 1922 and 1925 roughly 20,000 rifles were produced for troop trials incorporating many of these suggestions. These included the addition of a flip up aperture sight to the receiver, and a reinforced nose cap. This original and rare No.1 Mk.V rifle is in very good condition.

Details

This original and rare No.1 Mk.V rifle is in very good condition. The metalwork is excellent and retains much of its original blue. The barrel, while it has seen some use, remains in excellent condition. The woodwork has a number of dings, dents and shallow gouges. It has not been refinished and its original proof marks are clear. The rifle is missing its front band, piling swivel and magazine cut-off. The safety is also incorrect for this model. All serial numbers (receiver, bolt, barrel, nose cap and fore-end) are matching.

In an effort to resolve some of the issues found with the Mk.III rifle during the First World War, a number of changes to the rifle were suggested. Between 1922 and 1925 roughly 20,000 rifles were produced for troop trials incorporating many of these suggestions. These included the addition of a flip up aperture sight to the receiver, and a reinforced nose cap.

While the pattern of this rifle was sealed, the Mark V was not officially approved, announced or introduced in the list of changes.

The rifle was found to be impracticable. The rear sight was too light and prone to damage and the rifle was also far more expensive than the Mk III rifle.
