Made by DWM in 1917, this 'Artillery' Luger has seen a great deal of use and unfortunately, has not been well cared for since. Exernally, the pistol is missing the majority of its blue and the metal surface has large areas of fine pitting. The barrel is in poor condition, and is worn and pitted. All serial numbers are matching, except for the magazine.

In 1907, the German Artillery requested the development of a pistol-carbine. Comparative tests were undertaken between several pistols of the day, including: the Borchardt, the Mauser C96, and the Frommer, however, none were chosen for adoption. In 1908, the German Army adopted the Pistole 08 (P08). The Kriegsministerium decided at that time to re-consider the requirements of the artillery. Captain Adolf Fischer was assigned to head a team, that, in collaboration with DWM, was tasked develop a suitable variation of the P08.

Approved on the 3rd June 1913, the LP08's design drew heavily upon previous models, including stocked Lugers with 7 inch barrels produced for the South American market around 1900, as well as the pistol carbine (Selbstladepistolen 1904) adopted by the Imperial German Navy in 1904. The LP08 had an 8 inch barrel, an 8-position tangent rear sight (calibrated to 800 metres) and a shoulder stock with holster.
