This rifle was factory thorough repaired in 1954. There is very minor wear to the parkerised finish and the woodwork has minor dings and dents only. This rifle is in very good condition, and due to some rust in the original barrel, we have replaced the it with a new barrel. This rifle would be a great shooter and a great example of a Lithgow No.1 Mk III rifle.
Originally built by Lithgow in 1943 this rifle was subsequently factory thorough repaired at Lithgow. There is very minor wear to the parkerised finish and the woodwork has minor dings and dents only. The barrel is unfired.
Introduced on 26 January 1907, the SMLE Mk.III rifle would remain, with minor variations, in Australian service for some fifty years. Production of the rifle began in Australia in 1912 with the opening of a small arms factory at Lithgow, NSW. The last Mk.III* rifle made at Lithgow, was made in 1953, although rifles continued to be repaired there for some years after.
