While few officers wore the slouch hat during the First World War, most preferring the peaked cap, by the outbreak of the Second World War the slouch hat was favoured by many officers. Several generals are shown in period photographs wearing the slouch hat. In some cases the hat worn did not differ to that used by other ranks of the Australian Imperial Force. However, photographs also show generals wearing the hat with the wire embroidered general's cap badge on the puggaree at the front of the hat.
These hats are an exacting reproduction of a slouch hat worn by some Australian generals during the Second World War. The 100% fur felt hat is made by Akubra, a company that has supplied, and continues to supply, hats to the Australian Army since the early 20th century. To these hats are attached a reproduction of the Commonwealth Pattern badge, khaki puggaree, wire embroidered General's cap badge, and adjustable leather chin strap. We regret that we are unable to attach colour patches to the hat band.
