Details

This bayonet was adopted for use with the CETME Model C 7.62mm Assault Rifle. It was also used with the FR-7 and FR-8 training rifles.

The first version of the CETME, the Model 1958, was not adopted with a bayonet. During a short period after the Second World War there was some debate as to whether bayonets would be practicable in future conflicts. As a result, many countries adopted rifles with no fittings for bayonets. Adopted in 1964 as the Machete Bayoneta Modelo 1964, these bayonets were designed for the CETME Model C 7.62mm Assault Rifle.

The Model 1964 bayonet has chequered plastic grips and an unfullered bolo blade. The scabbard has an integral web belt frog.

CETME (an acronym for Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Materiales Especiales (Center for Technical Studies of Special Materials)), was a government design and development establishment where German designer, Ludwig Vorgrimler, modified the German StG45(M) assault rifle to create the CETME.

The two crests on the blade are the Toledo Coat of Arms and the factory crest of the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), Empresa Nacional de Santa Barbara de Industrias Militares (National Industrial Institute, National Business, Santa Barbara Military Industries).
