The Transitional Viking Sword is a medieval sword with a 'lobed' or Viking style pommel that appears in "The Archaeology Of Weapons". It is not known what fittings this sword originally had, and Windlass has chosen a hilt covered with brown leather and fitted with steel to make a very attractive sword. The blade and grip combine to provide a weapon of superb balance and cutting ability. The blade has a definite taper from below the hilt. This is not believed to be due to repeated sharpening as several blades of this type are known. Aside from its striking appearance, making the blade wider towards the hilt puts more weight back toward the grip, thus making the blade faster and better balanced. These types of sword are believed to date from around 1100 A.D. Made of high carbon steel with a good temper. Comes with scabbard.
