Swedish Carl Gustaf Model 1896 6.5x55mm Rifle (98898)

The Swedish adopted the Model 1896 rifle in 6.5x55mm as its standard infantry rifle in 1896. This replaced the Model 1867-89 Remington rolling block rifle in 8x58mmR Danish Krag. Production started in 1898 in Sweden at Carl Gustafs. Additional rifles being produced by Mauser during 1899 and 1900 because of delays in shipping production machinery from Germany to Sweden.
Production at Carl Gustafs continued until 1932 during which some 475,000 rifles were produced. Mauser produced some 20,000 rifles between 1895 and 1900. And around 18,000 rifles were manufactured by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB during the Second World War for civilian marksmanship training.
