Details

The crossed flags badge was worn by qualified signallers of all arms. The flags on the badge represent the flags then in use with the British army. The all blue flag was intended to be used when the signaller was in front of light backgrounds, the white with central blue stripe, against dark backgrounds. Using one or two flags, messages could be read up to 4 miles in morse, and up to 2 miles in semaphore.

The badge was normally worn on the left forearm. Instructors wore the badge above any chevron on the right arm.

These reproductions have been copied from an original example. They are made with wool thread embroidered onto a khaki wool backing.
