Details
Used between the 12th and 18th century, the buckler achieved a deserved reputation as both a defensive and offensive arm, and is indispensable in both classical rapier play and I.33 sparring ('Fechtbuch I.33', an anonymous German manuscript from around 1300, is the earliest surviving manual of swordsmanship. Known as Manuscript I.33, it deals entirely with the use of the medieval sword and buckler).
