Designed in October 1914, the 3rd Pattern Carriers, Cartridge used an additional strap to close the bottom three pockets of the left cartridge carrier. This was the result of concerns about the amount of ammunition being lost by troops at the front by the pockets being accidentally opened when leaning against trench walls or while prone. The right carrier remained unchanged.

Designed to hold 75 rounds in five pockets the carriers cartridge were made in non-interchangeable left and right carriers. The pockets are arranged in two tiers on the carriers, each pocket having a separate cover and, except for the bottom three pockets on the left carrier, secured by a snap fastener. The bottom three pockets of the left carrier are closed with a strap that attaches to a press stud at the top of the cover of the pocket. These carriers have only the rear internal divider, not the front. This allows a block to be placed in the pouches to give them shape without the need to use cartridges. Sold in pairs only.
