These oil bottles originated in Canada, but seem to be made by numerous manufactures. They are black in colour and each has a spoon or dip rod attached to the lid for the extraction of the oil.

Since the adoption of the Magazine short Rifle in 1904, the butts of Lee Enfield rifles held a oil Bottle and a Pull Through. During WWII, as a war time expedient, the oil bottles were changed from brass to bakelite. These oil bottles remained in service through to the 1970s.
