The embroidered star was worn above chevrons by Regimental or Brigade Quartermaster-Sergeants until 1917, when this rank was abolished and became instead, an appointment of the rank Warrant Officer Class II. The badge for this appointment, a crown within a wreath, was made of brass. In the Australian Imperial Force, badges of rank, during both the First and Second World Wars, were worn on the right arm only.

These badges are made of wool thread embroidered onto a khaki wool backing. Rank badges are sold individually, not in pairs.
