Details

Introduced in 1909, the ammunition pockets for the German service rifle carried forty five rounds of ammunition in nine chargers. In 1911 the capacity of the pouches was reduced to thirty rounds, each pocket holding ten rounds in two chargers. This pouch with minor variations in construction was used by the German Army throughout both the First and Second World Wars.

The ammunition pouches were marked with a manufacturers name and date of manufacture on the rear of the pouch. At the end of the Second World War, this was replaced by a numbered code, which replaced the three letter factory codes marked on much equipment during this war.
