Made in Australia during WWII, this breech cover is in very good condition. It was made in 1943 and is marked D/I\D.
Details
Breech covers were introduced during the First World War to keep mud and dust from the action of the rifle. The cover completely encloses the action and is held by three brass press studs. A leather thong on the cover attaches to the wire loop in front of the magazine on the rifle, holding the cover when it is not being used.
