Made by Fichtel & Sachs in 1917, this 1898/05 bayonet is in excellent condition. The bayonet retains its original polished finish. The blade has minor staining only while the pommel and guard have a dark finish. The wood grips are in good condition. The scabbard retains almost all of its original blueing, although there is minor pitting over much of its surface.

Replacing the Model 1898, the long, slender blade of which was prone to breaking, the M1898/05 bayonet was the most common German bayonet of the First World War. They were nicknamed the 'butcher' bayonet, due to their resemblance to the butcher’s knife of the period.
