This is an original Australian P'08/15 Back pack made during WWI.

The pack is in fair to good condition. It has some small holes in the canvas that may have been caused by rust. The pack is complete.

One of the packs leather tabs is marked 4th Inf batt AIF and is dated 1916.

During World War 1, due to the lack of webbing material in Australia, a substitute of the P'08 webbing was made in leather. This became known as P'08/15 equipment. All the components were a close copy of the webbing equipment. This leather equipment was mainly used for training, but some did make it to the front as shown in photographs of the war.
