British No.5 Mk.I Fazakerly .303 Rifle (AC2171)

Availability: Out of stock

AUD$3,350.00

Built by the Fazakerly in August 1947 (the last year of production), this No.5 Mk.I carbine does not appear to have seen a great deal of use since. The pencilled manufacturers markings on the receiver and magazine are clear, and the woodwork and metalwork are in excellent condition with minor marks only.

The barrel is in excellent condition with little indication of use. All serial numbers (receiver, bolt, magazine and fore-end) are matching.

Details

The No.5 Mk.I (Jungle carbine) was developed during WWII. With the Jungle fighting occurring in Burma and other areas against the Japanese, the need for a lightweight, shorter rifle was identified.

The jungle carbine was tested in 1944 and accepted for service in September 1944. They were produced in 2 factories, both in the UK. These were Fazakerley and BSA Shirley.

They remained in production untill 1947 when deemed obselete.
