Developed in the late 1930s to replace the P08 (Luger), which proved to be both unreliable and expensive, the P38 was adopted by the German Army in 1938. Production of the P38 began in 1940.

Developed in the late 1930s to replace the P08 (Luger), which proved to be both unreliable and expensive, the P38 was adopted by the German Army in 1938. Production of the P38 began in 1940.

Following the Second World War this pistol was aquired by Belgium and was re-proofed. Externally the pistol is in good condition and there is minor wear to the blued finish and grips only. All of the original German proofs remain and all serial numbers are matching. The barrel shows wear and is pitted.
